So this blog will be more about the Do’s and Dont’s of looking after your own Aligners as you go about your daily life!
Don’t put them in a “safe” place, like on the countertop, on a shelf or on the white basin in the bathroom!
They are clear and made to be invisible, so if you are absent-minded, busy, or both, then the chances are you won’t find them again, especially if you are in a hurry!
Don’t use toothpaste to clean your aligners, this will be abrasive and may damage them so they won’t look as clear next to your teeth when you put them back in your mouth which kind of defeats the object of having near-invisible braces!

Don’t be rough with your aligners; place them as far as they will go in your mouth. Click one side by pressing it firmly on the left, then press the other side firmly until it clicks in place!
Do use your Retainer Brite cleansing tablets daily. I just pop one of the sealed tablets in the bottom of a small glass, add some water (enough to cover the aligners) and then add them to the fizzing mixture. Leave for 15 minutes to ensure they are clear of bacteria.
I then use my clean, wet toothbrush to clean the inside and outside of the retainers so that they are free from any debris and look clean, clear and sparkling in my mouth again.

Invisalign® Aligners Box Open
After having my aligners in for a few weeks now, I decided to visit my local Indian restaurant and ordered my favourite poppadoms, Peshwari Naan, Chicken Dansak and Pilau rice, washed down with a Vodka and Tonic!
I’d been pre-warned to keep my eye on my aligners once I’d taken them out so I found an orange paper napkin which I placed carefully on my open bag.
I then chatted happily away, with my back turned away from the bag. I paid and then closed my bag, ready to put them back in after I’d visited the bathroom. I went to the bathroom and opened my bag, but the napkin was gone!! The waiters had cleared away the table, taking away their orange napkins (and my clear aligners with them!!)
To my horror, it was too late to rummage in a bin of similar orange napkins! I noticed it was a late-night opening at Sale Dental Spa, which opens until 8 pm on Wednesdays, so I popped in quickly on my way home to let the staff know what had happened.
Luckily, the next set of aligners was due, so Mandi, the treatment coordinator, gave them to me a couple of days early. Phew! Disaster averted.
However, learn from my lesson and use the Invisalign® container as supplied by the company (for good reason!!
I’ve just measured this container when closed, and it’s actually only 8.5cm across and 2cm in depth, so it really is quite easy to carry around in your purse or handbag. Put it with your precious items like your phone, and believe me, you will need it!

This patient liked her smile, but never fully showed it. Slanted canines, teeth disappearing at the back, a smile not telling the full story.
