Jade Morgan saw the adverts on social media. Porcelain veneers in Dubai for just £2,800. The photos looked amazing. Much cheaper than veneers in Manchester or anywhere else in the UK.
She thought she’d found the perfect solution. So she booked her flight.
Two weeks after coming home, one of her teeth snapped in half. Her gums kept bleeding. What seemed like a bargain for cosmetic dental work had turned into a nightmare. Every single veneer had to be replaced. Her oral health was now worse than before she left.
Sadly, we see this happen again and again at our Manchester practice. 86% of UK dentists now treat patients who’ve suffered complications from dental work abroad. This isn’t bad luck. It’s what happens when dental tourism puts price before safety.
Here’s what those glossy adverts don’t tell you: the money you save upfront often vanishes when things go wrong.
Research shows that fixing botched dental work in the UK costs between £500 and £5,000. One in five dentists says it can cost even more than £5,000. Whether it’s failed veneers, poorly fitted composite bonding, or dental implants that need replacing, the corrective treatment adds up quickly.
Jade ended up spending more than if she’d had the veneers done properly with a cosmetic dentist in Manchester from the start. The ‘bargain’ became an expensive mistake.
The financial side is just the beginning. The damage to your teeth and gums can be permanent.
Patients describe their experiences using words like ‘pain’, ‘aggressive’, ‘invasive’, ‘complications’, and ‘infection’. Some people have healthy teeth filed down to tiny stumps for veneers or crowns—damage that can never be undone. This exposes nerves, leads to infections, and creates ongoing problems that even the best cosmetic dentist can struggle to fix.
Jade went abroad hoping to feel more confident. Instead, she’s left with anxiety about her teeth and the mounting bills.
The treatment that was meant to boost her confidence actually destroyed it. She now worries constantly about her dental health and whether her teeth will hold up. The psychological toll is real and lasting.
This is what happens when clinics rush through patients to maximise profit. Quality assessment takes time. Proper care takes time. When speed replaces care, your wellbeing pays the price.
The Irish Dental Association found that roughly 75% of people who travelled abroad for dental work needed corrective treatment when they got home.
Three out of four people. This isn’t about being unlucky. This is the likely outcome. Your oral health, your mental wellbeing, and your finances are all at serious risk.
When complications happen abroad, you have very little legal protection. Making complaints is difficult, especially when there’s a language barrier. Who do you turn to when your teeth are falling apart and the clinic is thousands of miles away?
In the UK, all dentists must be regulated by the General Dental Council. They must have insurance. They must meet Care Quality Commission standards. These protections exist to help you when treatment goes wrong.
Jade discovered this the hard way. When her tooth snapped, she couldn’t go back to Dubai. She had to find a cosmetic dentist in Liverpool—and pay for it all over again. Her oral health was compromised, her anxiety was through the roof, and her bank account was empty.
Dental tourism has exploded thanks to social media. The adverts show perfect smiles and promise cheap veneers, composite bonding, and teeth straightening. They don’t show the emergency appointments, the broken teeth, or the regret.
Those before-and-after photos don’t include the ‘two weeks later’ pictures. They don’t show the pain, the financial stress, or the damage to your mental health when things go wrong.
Good cosmetic dental care isn’t just about the technical work. Whether you’re considering veneers, composite bonding, Invisalign, or dental implants, it’s about thorough assessment, careful planning, and ongoing support. When clinics cut corners to offer cheap prices, your oral health, mental health, and finances all suffer.
We’re not saying all overseas dentists are bad. Some provide excellent care.
But here’s the truth: when you choose cosmetic dentistry based on price alone, you’re gambling with your teeth, your confidence, and your money. And the odds aren’t in your favour. Whether you’re in Manchester, Liverpool, or anywhere in the UK, investing in quality care protects your long-term oral health.
Jade’s £2,800 ‘bargain’ veneers ended up costing her far more than treatment with a reputable cosmetic dentist in the UK would have. The financial loss hurt. But the anxiety, the pain, and the loss of confidence? That damage goes far deeper than any bill.

This patient liked her smile, but never fully showed it. Slanted canines, teeth disappearing at the back, a smile not telling the full story.
Dr. Hamza mapped out every detail digitally before anything was touched. After just 4 to 5 months of Invisalign and targeted composite bonding, the result speaks for itself. Wider. Brighter. Completely hers.
