Considering Dental Implants in Sale Cheshire?

Reasons to Consider Dental Implants
  • Without the root structure of a natural tooth the jawbone can shrink making your face look older.
  • There are no loose parts. An implant is stable and comfortable.
  • Normally, it will serve its owner for life.
  • Implants LOOK and FEEL like natural teeth.
Missing teeth are a problem that has affected generations, affecting speech, eating and the finish of your smile. Often, patients assume a lost tooth is lost forever, and resign themselves to a permanent gap in the teeth. However, this is certainly not the case, and dental implants are now easier to achieve than ever. At Sale Dental Spa we design, implant and fit your dental implant to renew your smile, and your ability to chew.

What is a Dental Implant?

Dental implants are a solid and durable alternative to an original tooth. A screw-like post, the implant is fixed into the upper or lower jaw to provide a permanent solution to missing teeth and the perfect base for a crown or bridge. The careful fitting and the titanium-based exterior of the implant make them feel completely natural, so you can continue with daily life safe in the knowledge that they are capable of executing everyday tasks as efficiently as natural teeth.

There are many different restorations and solutions that can be used in conjunction with implants, including both single and multiple tooth options. Many people who consider them have removal, conventional dentures for lower and upper jaws, or have removable bridges. Following dental implantation treatment, these patients experience a significant improvement in their ability to chew food comfortably.

The Dental Implant Procedure

Step One

During your first appointment, Dr Aisha Ahmed and her team will use an X-ray to determine if your bone levels are good enough to hold titanium posts. Once it is agreed that you will proceed with the treatment, a model of your mouth will be made using a soft plastic compound, which will highlight where the gaps are located and provide specifications for the replacement tooth or bridge.

Step Two

In the following appointment, the team will implant the post into your mouth and ensure it fits perfectly. Following the insertion of the post, it is likely that it will take a number of weeks for the post to set in the jaw bone. To prevent the missing tooth from remaining a source of stress or unhappiness during this time, we will provide you with a temporary restoration to place over the top and cover the gap in your smile.

Step Three

Once your dental implant has set in your jaw bone, Dr Ahmed will fit the permanent replacement restoration onto the post. This is likely to be a crown or bridge, either of which would be secured in the mouth using the secured implant.

Do I Need Any Aftercare?

Following the procedure, it’s likely that you will require help from your dentist to manage your pain in the short term and to maintain the strength of your dental implant in the long term. Just like with your natural teeth, your dental implant should be cared for on a daily basis via brushing and flossing, which will prevent the buildup of bacteria around the restoration.

Are Implants Right For Me?

This is the ideal treatment for most patients hoping to replace and missing tooth. Although some cases are unsuitable for implants, many will benefit from the reduction in risk associated with a dental implant. The implants also look, feel and function like natural teeth, so you no longer have to feel embarrassed about the gap in your teeth when you leave your home.

Many older people are often concerned about the benefits they can enjoy from the implants due to their age. However, it is your health that determines the success of your implant, rather than your age. If you’re healthy enough to have a tooth extracted then it’s likely you’re healthy enough to receive the implants.

FAQs

Will I Need Anaesthetic?

Although a seemingly complex procedure, dental implantation is now so popular that the process has developed significantly over the past few years. Once only completed under General Anaesthetic, dental implantation can now take place using just a local anaesthetic and a sedative. This means you will enjoy the benefits of pain relief without the risk of general anaesthetic.

How many sessions will my dental implant take?

The dental implant itself will require one appointment for the impression to be taken and another for the fitting of the dental implant. This means the surgery can take place in just one session, reducing the amount of time you have to wait for your new implant. Once the root is implanted, we will advise how long it will take for the implant to set in the jaw bone, after which a restoration of your choice can be fitted onto the root.

Is age a problem?

Patients of almost any age can have a dental implant inserted into their jaw, from teen to the elderly. The only problem that can affect the insertion of an implant is the health of the jaw, which can be an issue at any age. Contact us immediately to discuss whether your jaw is healthy enough for dental implants.
