Hi everyone, hope you are enjoying our late Summer (in September!!) I’ve just come in to see Dr Aisha for an Invisalign® review appointment and I think that I’m about 6 weeks in now and I have adapted quite well to whipping out the aligners before every meal. I’m also fastidious about cleaning my teeth after every meal & coffee! Talking of coffee…I only have one a day, so I try and have that prior/post food.
The amount of people who haven’t even noticed that I’m wearing Invisalign® braces is quite incredible…it’s clear to see (ahem) that they are “near invisible”. Obviously they are in my mouth so I am aware they are there, however, I have to literally point them out to people as THEY are totally unaware! They really are what they say they are!

Yet some people have said to me, “Why am I having it done?” as they didn’t think I needed it. However, above is a picture of me with phenomenal TV cake maker Molly Robbins (yes, the pie and chips in the pic is actually a cake). It was taken at the Bakewell Baking Festival which I hosted two years ago. You can clearly see that my bottom teeth are crowded and my top slightly crooked.
As I mentioned in my previous blog, I saw a few doctors at various dental practices, some even said that I would have to have a tooth removed to make room for the teeth to move! Thankfully I met Dr Aisha Ahmed at Sale Dental Spa who reassured me that this just wasn’t the case, I can have between my teeth filed gently and gradually throughout my Invisalign® journey, to make space but no extractions are needed!

Above is a simulation of before and below is a simulation of after my treatment which shows how they will look after my 9 months of treatment. These photos are available because I had a FREE iTero scan which is a short video showing the sequence of movement of my teeth over my treatment period.
Dr Aisha even suggested that if I wanted the actual shape of the teeth to be more uniform then that could be done, but I’m quite happy for them to be their natural shape.

One thing that I have noticed, is that when you start a new aligner your teeth can ache a little getting them in and out. This is only to be expected as the aligners are helping to move your teeth and shows that they are working. But once you get used to the new aligner, you can sometimes forget that you’ve got them in!!!

This little compact, which came with my Invisalign® kit, is fantastic. Discreet and small enough to fit into my jacket pocket, it’s a perfect travel companion for me to house my aligners whilst I’m eating out. The strange shaped black tooth pick in the picture is perfect for flossing. I’ve used Pearl Bar Charcoal infused biodegradable flosses for years as charcoal is great at detoxifying and deodorising the mouth.
So, today I’m due in at Sale Dental Spa to have a little more filing between the teeth (known as IPR) to allow a touch more space for the teeth to move. IPR stands for interproximal reduction which I’m told is the process of creating very small amounts of space between pairs of teeth in order to allow the teeth to move as needed during treatment.
Plus, Dr Aisha can check to see how effective the aligners have been so far. As always, I will continue to keep you posted!
Have a great month people….keep smiling!

This patient liked her smile, but never fully showed it. Slanted canines, teeth disappearing at the back, a smile not telling the full story.
