Yesterday, as I sat in a café along Jumeirah Beach overseeing the Dubai Eye, planning a few Invisalign treatment plans for my clients, a young woman in her mid-20s walked in and immediately caught my attention as she ordered her morning coffee. 

She was very pretty with light brown curls framing her olive-toned skin effortlessly. But beyond her appearance, there was something even more captivating—a warmth and openness in the way she smiled hello before settling onto the curved banana-shaped sofa beside me.  

I sincerely hope I didn’t come across as too intense, but the moment she smiled, the dentist in me—30 years strong—couldn’t help but switch into ‘analysis mode.’ Like a walking dental supercomputer, I instantly recognised that her smile was struggling with crowding, spacing issues, and uneven edges. 

If ever there was a perfect case for an Invisalign & Composite Bonding smile makeover—this, was it. 

Now, you might be thinking that I marched right up to her mid-sip, handed over my card, and said, “Excuse me, darling, but your smile needs serious work.” But you’d be mistaken. 

Just as I wouldn’t expect a personal trainer to interrupt my manicure and demand 15 star jumps, I had no intention of treatment-planning a complete stranger simply enjoying her morning coffee. 

Just as I was about to dive back into my Invisalign treatment planning, the young woman looked at me and said in an accent that I knew all too well: 

“Your scarf is beaut! Where did you get it?” 

As we chatted, she introduced herself—Lucy, originally from Liverpool, now living in Dubai for the past five years, working as an estate agent. When I mentioned I was a Cosmetic Dentist with a practice in Manchester, her eyes lit up. She leaned in, obviously already aware of the crowding and unevenness of her smile (perhaps not in those specific terms) eager to know how I could help fix her smile. 

She confided in me, admitting that her teeth had long been a source of anxiety. She hated smiling in photos and, when men were around, would instinctively cover her mouth with her hand while laughing or eating. Despite being an extremely attractive modern woman in the prime of her life, her smile held her back—an all-too-familiar story, one I’ve encountered thousands of times. And, just as many times, I’ve helped transform those fears into confidence. 

As I spoke with Lucy about her options, it struck me—so many people believe that the dazzling, camera-ready Hollywood smiles they see on Netflix stars are simply natural. They don’t realise that their dream smile is entirely within reach, thanks to the wonders of modern cosmetic dentistry.
