What is Composite Bonding?
Composite bonding in teeth is a cosmetic dentistry technique where a composite resin (which is a type of dental material) is shaped and moulded onto your own teeth to give the outer appearance of a straighter and whiter smile.
It can be used as a cosmetic solution for the following issues:-
- Chipped teeth
- Gappy teeth
- Uneven teeth
- Grey teeth or
- Stained teeth, either in the tooth or the fillings.

Who is Composite Bonding Right For?
Unfortunately composite resin bonding isn’t suitable for every client, which is why we need you to come in and see us for a full assessment prior to your treatment.
If your smile is crooked as a result of an underbite or overbite, this treatment won’t correct it. Instead, speak with Dr Aisha to determine if more in-depth work is needed like adjusting your bite with fixed braces, ceramic braces, combination braces or Invisalign® (near invisible) braces. Or it may be that you have more complex chips or gaps in your teeth which would require other dental procedures to correct them effectively.
In short, composite bonding is mainly for those clients who seek a fast cosmetic solution for teeth that are otherwise healthy and have been well maintained.
What Can You Expect During Your Visit?
Composite bonding is a safe and effective technique that was developed more than 50 years ago. The fillings and processes today are very efficient, making it a much easier treatment for both you and your Dentist.
The treatment itself often starts with the removal of some surface enamel, allowing the Dentist to best shape the composite resin to your tooth, followed by the application of the bonding agent. Your Dentist (either Dr Aisha or one of the team) will then add the composite resin, cure it with a special light and finish off by polishing your teeth. Because the process involves a high level of technique for a natural mould and shape, it is highly recommended that you choose a Dentist who has experience and a specialty in this area, such as Dr Aisha.
What Aftercare Is Needed?
With normal care, today’s composite material is durable enough to last without regular attention; you won’t need to come and see your Dentist for special visits and maintenance.
However, you should ensure that you keep to your regular dental health check up and make your daily oral care a priority.
You should brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes each time, using a circular motion with a fluoride toothpaste and an electric toothbrush, as well as flossing (which can help remove debris from hard to reach areas).
You should also avoid biting down on particularly hard foods, or ice, to prevent cracking.
